Solve the dual challenges of disinfectant supply and safety management for small water plants in mountainous areas.

Liangshan Prefecture in Sichuan Province has complex terrain, and some township water plants are located in remote mountainous areas with limited transportation conditions. The transport and storage of purchased disinfectants have long been a challenge for operations management. The water plant served by this project has a daily treatment capacity of 10,000 tons and is responsible for drinking water supply to local township residents. Due to geographical constraints, a stable supply of liquid chlorine and purchased sodium hypochlorite is difficult to guarantee, and transport costs are high. Mountainous water plants also generally face the problem of weak technical capabilities among operating personnel, placing higher demands on the safety and ease of operation of the disinfection system.

Solution: Two 2 kg/h Sodium Hypochlorite Generators — On-site Generation from Salt, Water, and Power

The project was equipped with two sodium hypochlorite generators with a single-unit capacity of 2 kg/h, producing disinfectant on-site through salt water electrolysis. The core inputs are only salt, water, and electricity — all of which can be reliably obtained locally through regular channels. The system is highly automated and can automatically adjust dosing based on changes in water volume and quality, greatly reducing the operational burden on staff. The two units serve as backups for each other, ensuring continuous operation of the disinfection process at the mountainous water plant. The on-site generation model completely freed the plant from dependence on long-distance transport of purchased disinfectants, with available chlorine generated and used immediately at stable and reliable concentration.

A Sustainable Solution for Drinking Water Disinfection in Remote Mountainous Areas

The system was commissioned in 2021. The on-site generation model means the plant only needs to store salt as a raw material, fundamentally solving the problems of difficult transport, difficult storage, and unstable supply of purchased disinfectants in mountainous areas. Finished water residual chlorine remains stable and compliant, ensuring drinking water safety for local township residents. This project validates the applicability of compact sodium hypochlorite generators in remote mountainous water plants, providing a replicable and sustainable engineering solution for rural drinking water disinfection under similar geographical conditions.

    Client Testimonial

"Our plant is in the Liangshan mountains, with a daily water supply of 10,000 tons. Our biggest headache was the difficult transport and unstable supply of purchased disinfectants — and it got even worse during the rainy season when roads were blocked. After installing two 2 kg/h sodium hypochlorite generators in 2021, this problem was completely solved — we only need to buy salt, water and electricity are available locally, and we generate and use our own disinfectant. No more being at the mercy of transport and supply. The equipment is highly automated, so even with a small operating team we can manage it well. For mountainous water plants, this is a truly affordable solution."
